HELLFOX is an all-female alternative metal band with melodic death influences, a unique musical entity shaped by the fusion of four completely different backgrounds. Despite these differences, the band shares a common inspiration drawn from Amorphis, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity in terms of composition. However, when it comes to sound, Hellfox deliberately distances itself from the symphonic and traditionally female aesthetic, opting instead for acidic and distorted synths that create modern atmospheres. This choice perfectly match the pop-infused timbre of the melodic vocals, striking a balance between aggression and accessibility.
The dualism within Hellfox is not a clash but rather the coexistence of different voices within the human soul—multiple facets that, despite appearing to struggle against one another, ultimately harmonize to form a complete and complex identity. The band does not conform to trends nor seeks to stand out at all costs; they simply aim to be themselves in a society where normality is nothing more than a surface, while beneath it lies an abyss of personalities. This is the message Hellfox wants to convey—one that resonates with everyone, speaking to that inner voice that either pulls you in or pushes you away. For them, nothing is normal, and nothing is different.
Their new album, “The Spectrum of Human Gravity”, fully encapsulates their vision of music—inclusive, direct, engaging and crushing. The journey to its release was filled with external obstacles but as the band declare, “Good things are never easy.” Recorded at Eden Studio by Alessio Lucatti and mixed and mastered at Domination Studio by Simone Mularoni, this album marks a significant step forward with refined production and a more mature songwriting approach.
Musically, Hellfox is deeply rooted in Nordic melodic death metal but embraces an experimental edge, incorporating pop and electronic elements, particularly in the synths and clean vocals. The result is a dark, striking and fluid sound that blends power and emotion while rejecting predefined labels. Compared to their previous releases, “The Spectrum of Human Gravity” adopts an even darker tone, partly due to lower tunings and the shift in bass playing—now performed fingerstyle on a five-string instead of with a pick on a four-string—creating an heavier and more solid sound.
The album’s tracklist was carefully curated with only the most emotionally significant and compositionally strong songs making the cut. “The Spectrum of Human Gravity” is an introspective journey through human emotions, where acceptance takes precedence over judgment. The lyrics explore some of the most emotionally challenging topics—suicide, negative thoughts, loneliness and the struggle to be heard—but do so through evocative allegories, allowing listeners to convey them in their own deeply personal way. The band’s goal is not to dictate meaning but to forge connections, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in the music and find their own reflections within it.
This philosophy extends to their songwriting process as well. Songs often emerge from shared moments between the band members, evolving naturally through collaboration and experimentation. Lyrics and music develop in parallel, merging seamlessly to create a compelling musical narrative. On stage, Hellfox brings the same intensity to their live performances—blending the striking duality between the two vocalists, the powerful yet intricate presence of the guitar and bass and the relentless precision of the drums into an electrifying experience.
Hellfox refuses to be boxed into a single genre or definition. With “The Spectrum of Human Gravity”, the band solidifies its musical identity, blending instinct and innovation, emotion and raw energy. For fans of Amorphis, Death and even Lady Gaga, Hellfox offers a bold and ever-evolving sonic journey.
