FLAMESTRIKE - The Unholy March (CD)

"The Unholy March" is the debut full-length album from Italian epic metal band FLAMESTRIKE, set for release on January 29th, 2027 via Rockshots Records. The album marks a new chapter in a journey that began in Vercelli, Italy, in 2008, driven from the very beginning by a shared passion for epic and power metal.

Musically, "The Unholy March" draws its main inspiration from the European power and epic metal scene of the '90s and the American heavy and epic metal tradition of the '80s. The different musical backgrounds of the band members also bring elements of black, viking, death and epic-doom metal into the songwriting, alongside touches of folk and medieval music. Rather than allowing any single influence to become predominant, FLAMESTRIKE use them to expand their sound while keeping its epic and power metal foundations firmly at the core.

The album also represents a natural evolution from the band's 2021 EP, "Dark Clouds On The Obsidian Tower". While remaining faithful to their established identity, FLAMESTRIKE have developed a more varied approach, moving between more elaborate epic passages and moments of greater immediacy while partially reducing the tighter sections of their earlier material in favour of a broader musical range.

This evolution is also reflected in the origins of the album itself. "The Unholy March" brings together songs from different stages of FLAMESTRIKE's history, combining older compositions that had never previously been released and have now been rearranged with more recently written material. The songs were selected and ordered with the intention of making the most of the album when experienced as a complete work.

Rather than following a single overarching concept, the lyrics explore a shared world of fantasy, history and mythology. Recurring themes include battle, downfall, revenge, triumph and the inevitability of fate and these stories are not always told from the perspective of the traditional hero. Fallen warriors, dark entities and sacrilegious pacts coexist with tales of courage, honour and the pursuit of eternal glory, giving the album different perspectives on its heroic and darker themes.

Across these stories, a fallen commander returns from the afterlife at the head of an army of the dead to reclaim a throne by force; warriors confront adversity and loss in their pursuit of glory; and Death itself addresses a wealthy ruler as a reminder that the same fate ultimately awaits everyone. The album also steps outside fantasy to revisit the Viking assault on the monastery of Lindisfarne in 793 AD, bringing an episode of medieval history into FLAMESTRIKE's narrative world. Elsewhere, war becomes an inescapable destiny, with warriors eternally bound to steel and battle.

The music follows the same sense of variety. Martial rhythms and heavier passages coexist with melodic writing, acoustic and medieval-inspired sections, orchestrations and atmospheric moments. These contrasts allow the album to move naturally between aggression, melody and more evocative passages without losing the epic character that defines FLAMESTRIKE's music.

At the heart of "The Unholy March" is the band's perspective as music fans themselves. FLAMESTRIKE approached the album first as listeners and then as musicians, asking what they would want to hear from this kind of record and allowing each member's musical background to become part of the result. Their aim was to create music that fe" was conceived as an immersive listening experience: a record intended to transport the listener into the worlds portrayed by its music, from the battlefield to the walls of a medieval tavern, while maintaining the epic and symphonic trademark that runs throughout the album.
