Italian power metal outfit Embrace Of Souls return on May 22nd, 2026 with "The Battle Of The Dead", a fully realized 11-track concept album that consolidates the band’s artistic identity while pushing their epic and symphonic dimension to a new level of maturity.
Founded by drummer and composer Michele Olmi, Embrace Of Souls began as an ambitious studio project aimed at bringing together outstanding Italian musicians under a shared vision of melodic power metal rooted in the ’80s and ’90s tradition. Over time, the project evolved into a cohesive live band, strengthening its internal chemistry and refining a sound built on powerful riffing, layered keyboards, dynamic rhythms and a dual vocal approach that balances intensity and theatrical expression.
Following the international acclaim of "The Number Of Destiny" (2021) and the stylistic evolution marked by "Forever Part Of Me" (2024), the band now delivers its most ambitious work to date. "The Battle Of The Dead" unfolds in a medieval fantasy world divided into ancient kingdoms where a mysterious plague corrupts souls and ignites an inevitable conflict between the living and the dead. Themes of power, betrayal, sacrifice and hope shape a narrative designed to be experienced from beginning to end with each track functioning as a chapter in a larger, coherent arc.
Musically, the album embraces a pronounced dualism - light and darkness coexist throughout the compositions. Classic heavy and power metal foundations are enriched by symphonic textures, dramatic arrangements and carefully crafted vocal interplay between Giacomo Rossi and Martina Mazzeo whose operatic timbre expands the band’s expressive range. The songwriting remains structured and focused, privileging memorable melodic hooks while maintaining narrative depth and textural detail.
The production reflects the band’s commitment to precision and sonic clarity: music and drums composed by Michele Olmi, arrangements and rhythmic architecture shaped by Giovanni Paolo Galeotti, story concept developed by bassist Xavier Rota, and a meticulous mix and mastering handled by Alessio Garavello at Rogue Studios in London. A special appearance by Morby (Domine) on “The War” reinforces the album’s epic character and ties it to the broader European power metal lineage.
