Dying Awkward Angel - The Missing Frame (CD)

Born in the late '90s underground scene of Turin, Dying Awkward Angel was founded by guitarist and composer Edoardo Demuro, driven by a need to create music that was fast, raw, and uncompromising. Drawing inspiration from the Gothenburg melodic death metal wave and the aggression of American thrash and death metal, the band forged a sound both violent and melodic—refined over the years through relentless live activity and deep artistic growth.

With a lineup enriched by musicians who’ve played in bands like Highlord, Opera IX, Grievers, Kenos, and Symmetric Disorder, Dying Awkward Angel have toured alongside acts such as Decapitated, Impaled Nazarene, Necronomicon, Forgotten Tomb, Node, and many more. Following the release of "Absence of Light" in 2018, the band now returns in full force with a new album titled “The Missing Frame”, set to be their most intense and direct work to date.

Anticipated by the singles “The Magical World of the Dead” and “Music Kills”, "The Missing Frame" is the result of a redefined creative process—faster, heavier, and more deliberate. “We wanted a no-compromise record,” the band states. “So we picked only the strongest material. What you hear is the result of a brutal and honest cooperation between us all.”

The album explores dualities—good and evil, real and unreal, instinct and control—through lyrics that are intimate and personal, often drawn from the band members’ own lives, stories, and nightmares. “We hope that listeners will feel what we feel, and carry that connection into the live shows,” says vocalist Michele Spallieri. “This is the most authentic version of us.”

Musically, "The Missing Frame" blends the cold precision of Swedish melodeath with the raw edge of American metal, all filtered through the band’s unmistakably Italian identity. The result is both familiar and unpredictable—“Don’t expect what you expect. Expect what you don’t.”

For fans of At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity, Carcass and early In Flames, "The Missing Frame" is a reminder that passionate, intense and meaningful metal is still very much alive.
