Rockshots Records proudly present “As The World Tree Fell”, the ambitious and emotionally charged debut album by Finnish band Canvas of Silence. Blending progressive metal, cinematic ambiance, atmospheric rock and expressive female vocals, the album explores the fragile boundaries between collapse and rebirth, inner turmoil and redemption. Musically intricate yet accessible, it marks the arrival of a band with a strong identity and a compelling artistic vision.
Described by the band as “Prog-influenced Chorus Metal,” the music of Canvas of Silence balances technical sophistication with powerful hooks and sweeping melodies. The songs combine heavy, guitar-driven arrangements and polyrhythmic grooves with rich orchestrations, ambient layers and soaring choruses. At the center of this sonic tapestry is the emotional voice of Aino Vuorenmaa, whose performance brings both vulnerability and power to the band’s evocative sound.
The album’s eight tracks form a cohesive conceptual arc inspired by the symbolic fall of the “World Tree”—a metaphor for personal, societal and existential collapse. From the progressive tension of “Drown” to the uplifting serenity of “One With the Wind” and the cathartic climax of “Wayfarer”, each song unfolds with purpose. Themes of grief, disillusionment, memory and letting go are woven into a larger story of transformation and renewal. The lyrical writing is poetic and introspective, enhancing the album’s emotional weight.
The band was founded by Tatu Hanhikoski (guitar, programming, composer) as a personal outlet in a moment of crisis. Originally conceived as a studio project, Canvas of Silence evolved into a full band with the arrival of Jaakko Puusaari (guitar, vocals), Mikael Minkkinen (bass) and Iiro Vuori (drums). Each member played a vital role in shaping the final sound, bringing years of experience from other Finnish rock and metal acts. Their chemistry is evident in the organic dynamics of the album.
Musical influences are broad and thoughtfully integrated: the emotional depth of Pain of Salvation, the symphonic grandeur of Nightwish and the melodic aggression of In Flames with added touches of alternative rock, nu metal and even Studio Ghibli-inspired cinematic scores. This diverse range is never forced—it serves a cohesive narrative voice.
“As The World Tree Fell” was recorded in multiple Finnish studios and produced by Tatu Hanhikoski, Jaakko Puusaari and Joonatan Jaakonaho (who also handled mixing duties). The album was mastered by Miro Kiiski at MIRO MASTERING. The visual artwork, crafted by Kim Kupiainen, further amplifies the album’s central concept, portraying the moment of collapse with beauty and mystery.
Early singles “Drown”, “One With the Wind” and “Humanimal” have already introduced the project’s emotional range and musical complexity, gaining praise from prog and metal communities alike. On release day, the band will spotlight “Wayfarer” as the focus track—a sweeping eight-minute epic that encapsulates the band’s identity in full.
Canvas of Silence have created a debut that is technically refined, emotionally resonant and conceptually deep. With a unique sound, a clear vision and a mature songwriting voice, they emerge themselves as one of the most promising newcomers in the modern progressive and atmospheric metal scene.
