Biography
OZORA is an eclectic Italian progressive/alternative rock band made up of four romantic and angry forty-year-olds who, with lyrics in Italian, anger, and irony, slam their frailties in your face while casting a stern look at the madness of humanity.
The band was formed in 2016 by Danilo "Sakko" Saccotelli (former drummer of Braindamage) and Paolo Marreddu, who had already collaborated in the 1990s with their project Umanoia. Both musicians emerged from the thriving Piedmontese Prog/Metal scene of the late ’80s and crossed paths frequently on stages of clubs and festivals, fueling the vibrant underground music scene of that era.
In 2016, the band expanded with the addition of bassist Luca Imerito and vocalist Sidney Silotto, solidifying the original lineup. OZORA set out to reinterpret the classic Italian heavy/rock sound, taking inspiration from bands like Ritmo Tribale, Movida, In.Si.Dia, and Bluvertigo, while blending it with modern progressive and alternative influences, including Mastodon, Tool, and Porcupine Tree.
Their debut album, “Perpendicolari”, was released in 2017 under Rockshots Records. Featuring guest artist Livio Magnini of Bluvertigo on the track “La Tua Piccola Tragedia”, the album received immediate acclaim for its innovative sound. However, internal pressures and personal differences led to the departure of vocalist Sidney, halting the album's promotion. Determined to move forward, the band found a new frontman in Davide Conti, a seasoned vocalist with a rich background in music and live performance.
The new lineup debuted live in 2019 and released the single “Un Nuovo Giuda”, showcasing their renewed strength. In 2021, OZORA unveiled their second album, “Angelica”, recorded after the first lockdown. The album is a raw, emotional manifesto of fragility, anger, hope, and constructiveness, cementing their place in the Italian progressive rock scene.
October 11, 2024: OZORA returns with their latest album, “Litanie”, marking a new milestone in their artistic journey.
Recorded at the renowned Fusix Studio under the expert production of Andrea Fusini, the album features eight tracks that push the boundaries of progressive rock and alternative metal. With intricate arrangements, dynamic structures, and emotionally charged lyrics sung entirely in Italian, “Litanie” is a testament to the band’s growth and innovation. The album showcases their ability to blend the technical brilliance of progressive rock with the raw energy of alternative metal, taking listeners on an immersive journey through deep emotional landscapes.
For fans of Porcupine Tree, Faith No More, and Deftones, “Litanie” offers a unique sonic experience that is both captivating and daring. With this release, OZORA solidifies their reputation as one of Italy’s most compelling progressive rock bands, continuing to redefine their genre while staying true to their roots.
With “Litanie”, OZORA once again proves their resilience, creativity, and ability to evolve, further cementing their status as a standout act in the Italian and international progressive music scene.
